Images - fauna and flora

The footpaths and bridleways of Hertfordshire bring one into close contact with a variety of natural delights. Even on the busiest tracks there is much to discover throughout the year.

There are 43 sites of Special Sites of Scientific Interest in Hertfordshire, such as Patmore Heath, Thorley Flood Pound or Amwell Quarry. Natural England has a list.

This page leads to seasonal galleries of members' photos and observations; be patient - quality images take time to load! There's a recipe for sloe gin on the autumn page - just get picking!

And the fauna ?

Well, the animals are a little more elusive and don't hang around for photos. From black swans to badgers, from mink to muntjac, from woodpeckers to voles, they're out there, native as well as imported.

Let's have your pictures. Even an occasional horse or rare breed of goat wouldn't go amiss - as long as they were seen on a ramble in Hertfordshire or North Middlesex!
