Footpaths
Hertfordshire is one of the more enlightened counties concerning public rights
of way; most are clearly marked. A map of the area with the council offficers concerned is available here.
The main problem is the non-reinstatement of cross field paths after ploughing or cropping or allowing crops to grow on them. The second major problem is the ploughing up of paths on the edges of fields. Both these practices are illegal and should be reported.
Other problems may include broken stiles, obstructions by fallen trees or overgrowth, damaged or vanished signs........
If you wish to report a problem you have encountered when out walking in the countryside, you may contact one of the local members (list below) or use a Path Problem Report form - this is located on the Ramblers' Association Use Your Paths website; this is passed on to us.
