Committee members needed
Members are needed to serve on the area committee
A number of the key members of the present committee have served for several years and the time has come to bring some new blood onto the committee since even the most enthusiastic committee member should not be expected to serve indefinitely and many have considerable other commitments both within the Ramblers' Association and with other organisations.
We are looking for:
Area Chairman
Normally limited to three years - someone able to control the meetings four times a year on a Monday evening 7.30pm-9.30pm plus the Area AGM in January preferably in close co-operation with the Area Secretary. Enthusiasm required to take the Area forward. The present Chairman has served for three years and now wants a break. Contact Edward on 01462 459870 if you might be interested. A present or former Chairman of a Group or another organisation would be ideal.
Area Vice Chairman
The Vice Chairman would only be expected to chair meetings when the Chairman is unable to be present but it is normally expected that he or she would agree to take on the position of Chairman in due course. Contact Edward as above if you think you might be interested.
Area Secretary
This is a very busy job which the present Secretary has carried out with great enthusiasm for nearly thirteen years but feels that he is now running out of steam and that a younger member should take over now that he has passed his 75 th year. He is also active with his local Group and with the Footpaths sub-committee so would continue to work hard for the Ramblers as well as a number of other voluntary organisations. The job entails preparing and sending out the Agenda and Minutes together with other related papers for four meetings a year. He/she also has the Area Annual Report to prepare and send out to all our members. Booking the rooms for all the meetings including the arrangements for the Area AGM in conjunction with the committee is also his/her responsibility. He/She also has to keep the Area website up to date but it might be possible to find someone else to take on this responsibility. He/she is also the public face for the organisation answering enquiries from new members and members of the public. Contact David Allard on 01763 242677 if you think you might be interested.
Area Treasurer
This is a very important job which the existing holder has carried out exceptionally well for the past ten years but her other commitments including leading for Ramblers Worldwide Holidays now make it impossible for her to continue. The recent introduction of budgeting for groups has placed an additional responsibility on the Treasurer's shoulders. However the job entails only about three to four hours a month plus 1 ½ days when the Accounts have to be prepared at the end of September. This job would be ideal for an existing or former Treasurer of a Group or other organisation. Contact Annette on 01582 760648 if you think you might be interested.
Representative on the RA Greater London Forum
We are looking for a member to represent us on this Forum which meets up to four times a year at Central Office normally on a Wednesday evening starting at 6.30pm. The representative would report back to Area Council so it would be desirable for them also to be a member of the Area Council, possibly as an Individual Member although a written report would suffice any time that the representative was unable to attend the Area Council Meeting. Ideally we are looking for a member who lives in London which is not the case with our present representative. Contact Chris on 01923 211113 if you think you might be interested.
