Footpaths

Hertfordshire is one of the more enlightened counties concerning public rights of way; most are clearly marked.

The main problem is the non-reinstatement of cross field paths after ploughing or cropping or allowing crops to grow on them. The second major problem is the ploughing up of paths on the edges of fields.  Both these practices are illegal and should be reported.

Other problems may include broken stiles, obstructions by fallen trees or overgrowth, damaged or vanished signs........

If you wish to report a problem you have encountered when out walking in the countryside, please use our Footpath Report form.

Grid references are a good way of identifying an exact location.  Click here to see a simple guide on how to work it out.

Do not use the email form if you need to make a sketch or if you wish to send it the information to another party.  Please click here for a form to print out + a list of national and local contacts.
